Wisconsin’s BIG GOVERNMENT Republicans get a free pass from the media.

Hey!

Guess what?

Wisconsin Republicans like big government!

Who cares?

Not the media!

Yes it’s that simple.  Last week, in another embrace of big government and disdain for local control, the Wisconsin Republican Party pushed legislation that would outlaw the simple practice of democracy all the way down to the local level.

Wisconsin republicans want to restrict how and when school districts can use a referendum to see if the local community supports raising taxes for the education of the children living in those districts.  Sen. Duey (Cheatum and Howe) Stroebel, R-Saukville explained that it would be more “honest” to strip the ability of local taxpayers’ right to self-government and regulate the practice of democracy.

See, in Wisconsin, the Republican Party has lost faith in the individual and decided that only they have the wisdom to decide when the residents of local school districts might approve or not approve a tax increase.

But you see at this point in time this story doesn’t surprise me.  This is what Wisconsin Republicans do—practice fascism.

However, I’m sick and tired of our supposed LIBERAL media (print, television, radio, online, etc.) never following up with critical questions.  All we get is simple reporting.

Is it really up to hack bloggers like me to ask the obvious questions like,

  1. Don’t Republicans believe in small government and local control?
  2. Why is it OK to regulate democracy?
  3. When did the Republican party lose faith in the individual?
  4. Exactly where did you get the idea to take away the local authority of school communities to hold a referendum?
  5. Is this something residents of school communities asked for? Can you produce the records and show just how many residents wanted this legislation?
  6. Since republicans have regularly cut spending on public schools since 2010 isn’t this really just another way to strangle public schools?
  7. Isn’t this just a way to pay off your private school and voucher donors that lobby you regularly for the dismantling of community based public schools?
