Every article on teacher shortages is a distraction

“What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches.” ― Karl A. Menninger

Articles on teacher shortages irritate the crap out of me. This fall, they’ve become all the rage: here’s one from NPR, one from U.S. News and World Report, from the Christian Science Monitor, Marketplace and The Cap Times.

Why am I irritated so? Because these are the same dipshits that spent so much time and column space deriding teachers. Yes- there’s a problem. That problem is the mainstream media capitalizing on whatever story they feel will make you click on the links to their subscribers-only webpages. Yes, there’s a problem- and the mainstream media isn’t the answer to the problem they helped create.
